Radical Times calls for Radical Changes
Radical House came to life from personal struggles, emerging from a dark place filled with pain and heartache. It was fueled by intense emotions like rage and a deep sense of loss. A group of divorced women played a crucial role in helping the founder, Emily, confront her reality, guiding her through a whirlwind of feelings until she hit rock bottom, where she realized her own self-imposed limitations. This sisterhood, along with the wise guidance of Suzie Brown, pulled Emily back from the brink of despair and self-hatred. As she began to heal emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually, Emily recognized the harsh realities faced by many women in her situation. Several of her friends were on the verge of homelessness after dedicating decades to being stay-at-home wives and mothers, only to find themselves financially devastated and without stable employment after their husbands, whom they trusted, left them under painful circumstances. The stories of these women revealed a troubling pattern of divorce leading to financial ruin and emotional crises, often exacerbated by infidelity.
Emily has always stood up for people with disabilities, those on the fringes of society, and anyone who hasn't received the respect they deserve. When she discovered that many women were becoming homeless, she dove into research, something she loves and excels at. Unfortunately, there was a lack of solid information on this group, but the urgency of the situation was clear from various media sources, often highlighting the American crisis from an international perspective. This led to the creation of Radical House Inc., fueled by passion, expertise, teamwork, and a supportive network of friends dedicated to the Radical Acceptance Healing House initiative.
The founders—Val, Crystal, Beth Anne, Beth, and Jules—faced numerous challenges, but none of them backed down; even if they felt defeated, they always returned with renewed determination. While we've outlined our mission and vision, we haven't yet discussed our broader impact on homelessness. Our aim is to develop a program grounded in evidence and proven effectiveness, acknowledging that nothing is ever 100% successful. Radical House intends to extend this program to every transitional housing facility, collaborating with experienced professionals, those with inspiring success stories, and individuals still experiencing homelessness. The solution to ending homelessness won't come solely from research and statistics; it requires real-life experiences, radical acceptance, actionable plans, and, most importantly, community support.
